ooh, I know those rugs. nice, but yes, heavy. Maybe a 6*3-4ft piece (hey! I'm short, ok.) for a ground sheet. (step out sheet, ground sheet when bivy)

The hiking poles- on topic, because it's a mulitple use item when you need to pitch a hammock as a tent. Why carry poles if you use trekkers?

As a canoe tripper, I have paddles and stuff I can use to set my HH up as a bivvy. I even have a 12' pole that comes apart which is about perfect. Something special about camping on those grassy coastal islands you can see out there from mainland. I can almost hear the gulls now.

Here's a picture of a Claytor Jungle Hammock set up on the ground. It's about half way down the page.

I can't believe Neo didn't beat me to it. You can use poles if you find yourself short on palm trees.

I just finished a nylon taffeta hammock made from some walmart fabric I bought today. Great stuff.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?
