Saw these coordinates and thought I'd chime in, 2 years ago I panned for gold about 16 miles from these coords. (Coker Creek) Made about $850 in flakes and pickers... The USGS lists an old abandoned mine about 2 miles from your camp. I'd bring a pan & scoop and hit the creeks... No licensing required for pans and sluices.
Jus' sayin'...
Yall have fun!

Coker Creek is one of my BMT trail towns, the post office/gift shop sells panning supplies.
So what would an ultralight panner use?
With gold hitting a little over $1645.00 an ounce today, I'd say whatever it took.
We went loaded for bear using the Jeep, but if I had to go minimal, it would be my 14" Keene pan, a plastic trowel, an 8 oz snuffer bottle, a pair of tweezers and a small glass vial w/screwtop lid.
Great info and even greater people here:

Chuck Pharish runs it now since Tim moved up to the state directors spot.

Man I would love to do this hike but I am already committed to leading a trip from Max Patch to Hot Springs that weekend. Dang it! I hope you guys do another ultra light hang soon. Really want to see some of this gear in action before I start forking out the big bucks. Like I have big bucks to fork out, hah!
Maybe we could offer a Ghost Hammock as a "door prize" although that doesn't seem to be the right term.
Hanging for gold
Be a nice project in the morning.
Trying to get this hang on my calendar Rock.
Now that I know we could all walk away rich it is very tempting.
This is a great idea! Hope everyone has an awesome time and learns some fun new things.

The problem with making a "door prize" hammock is I don't think I'll have the time before the hang to bang one out.
