Attn: Fronkey open bottom style bugnet users

I'm in the process a making different types of bugnets to go with my DIY hammocks. I am considering the open bottom bugnet the Fronkey detailed in his instructional video here .... http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ghlight=Bugnet

I think I like the design, but one thing bothers me. Does the bottom really seal up such that bugs can't sneak their way in?

I toss and turn during the night. Plus I use a partial UQ. All this has me thinking that there are a lot of obstacles challenging a tight seal. I live in Florida where bug protection isn't an option. So, I'm looking for some confirmation before making this my next project.

I personally have never had any bugs sneak into my hammock for a late night snack.
One of the reasons I mentioned to put a cord lock on it was so you can tighten it to compensate for the size of your quilt. Also, I do spray my stuff with permethrin which helps out a little bit too.

I understand your concern and am hoping some others chime in to give their thoughts as well.

The seal happens where the net first drapes over the hammock edge and does a good job against flying insects. Permethrin on the net and hammock take care of the rest.

I just ordered the materials for one. I'm making one change. The shock cord channel will be grosgrain, which will soak up and hold permethrin, which the netting will not. This, along with treating my hammock, should do the trick.

Hey OG, do you think the grossgrain will interfere with the shock cord's ability to bunch up the opening smaller?

Au contraire, mon frere. I think it helps. There's grosgrain on the suspension openings of my BIAS Buginator and NanoBuginator.

It's prolly ok on a bugnet since you don't need fine control. I did grosgrain on the end channels of an UQ before, and it was a mistake. In that case it did cause problems cinching tight enough.

OG, that sounds like a really cool mod. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Here are a couple videos from Fireinmybones and Tendertoe on the ones they made and their mods. Maybe this will help some.
