It makes a difference to mostly the person laying in the hammock. For the bug concern treating the material with permethrin is the way to go if it is buggy out. Your under quilt hides your hammock for the most part so for stealth tarp color is a bigger concern than hammock color. I have had black, camo, olive, coyote, and white for my tarps the lighter colors let more light in is the biggest difference I have noticed. I have had people walk right by my white tarp that were startled when I said hello because they didn't see it, and then had a guy walk out of his way to see how I had hung my "tent" (camo tarp ) in the air. It seems some people are just more alert than others. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the replies. I am going for natural colors if i can find them. But was thinking if I find a deal on some brighter colors would I be attracting trouble.!

I know honey bees specifically are more likely to sting something in dark colors than white, as they associate dark or black with predators to their hives. That's why beekeepers wear white. Makes sense for other insects to be attracted to black or dark colors for the same/ similar reasons.

most colors are dark at night. I do suggest a reflective thread in your tie downs. stealth might have you eating dirt on the way out or in.

I have always had earth tones for my gear to blend in but recently bought a bright red hammock, blue under quilt, and an orange top quilt. I’m still just as camouflaged because my tarp covers it all.

Wow, a 6 year old thread is back! I'll add my 2 cents: black or dark olive, since I want to be one with nature.
