Thank you for the warning about paracord, I was under the impression that it was super strong but I respect that I have no experience in using it for this type of thing and don't fancy taking too big a risk.
I think it will be ok for my daughter as she's almost 4, so weighs next to nothing.

What would you suggest as a replacement that I can get over here? Would 7mm purlon be a good enough alternative?

Have a look at ukhammocks, they sell 7/64 Amsteel blue and webbing straps, by the meter or built up into whoopies and tree straps. Alternatively google dyneema D12 and check out ships chandlers or look out for climbing gear such as slings, crabs and descender rings. Hope that helps.

Fixed the Images on a previous post.

Also, thinking I may buy a £10 hammock on eBay and just go from there for myself.

    Hi Noid,

Another UK hanger here - my in-laws live in Swineshead just down the road from you, so am up that way every now and again.

There are some decent places over here to get hold of the stuff to make up some hammocks, plus a few of us that make and use them. I make my own suspensions and tree huggers, and am graduating to some of the more technical bits at the moment...

Welcome to the forum and keep up the good work...

So there is hope still then.
I actually live in Kirton if you know it, so approx a 5 min drive from Swineshead. (Also, I lived in Swineshead until I was 5, down Coles Lane).

I know Kirton, my sister in law lived there for a bit until she moved down here...

Also know Coles lane well - we walk the dog down there when we visit and around the fields at the back. The in-laws live off King John's road.

It's worth checking out some of the UK outdoors forums for hammocks as they do come up every now and then. You can also get some of the cheaper ones from ebay and modify them. I added a structural ridge and whoopies to a cheap £15 group buy hammock and it's cracker (also got a WBBB though lol)

Don't rush into anything, check out what you are buying and ask questions and you won't go far wrong!

Well, I'm not sure what's good and what's not at the minute, the only thing I do know is that I have very little cash. Learning about lots from reading here but you don't get a massive amount of decent information from eBay listings that I would consider helpful.

Like this one for instance, it's about the only one in my price range. Would it be a waste of the little cash I do have even when modified? eBay link.

    That looks quite good...

Standard channel end you could use to modify no problem. Adding whoopies / webbing wouldn't be too much of a problem for this. Can't really tell too much from the pics.

They also do an XL for about £17 delivered (black) which might be worth the extra couple of pounds.

In all honesty, there's not much to go wrong with it.
