Agreed. If you can carry it it's not really car camping.

If you're out camping and you start wondering whether you're car camping....
    then you probably are.

If you're out camping and you're not sure where you left your car....
    then you're probably not.

Eh, if all my stuff goes in my pack and I can't bail in a vehicle easily if things go bad, then it's backpacking. Otherwise it's car camping/bike camping/motorcycle camping/etc.

Sounds like my Scout Troop. We've been moving the boys to Pack Camping, but every trip is within walking distance of our vehicles. I've tried to explain this is nothing more than car camping with packs to the Scout Master. But, hey what do I know, I'm just an Assistant Scout Master.

"Mobile Base Camp" works for me...

Seriously, if you're far enough away to NOT go get something crucial you forgot, (like your Whisperlite) you're far enough away... Knowhatimean?

Yep. If you use your car for more than just transport to the trailhead.

I would turn that question around and ask, if your enjoying yourself and enjoying your surroundings, does it matter what it is called? I guess I am just not concerned with labels.

When the GF (girl friend) comes it's Truck camping because most cars are not big enough for her gear grab..Do have a nice tent that's great for this because we enjoy the cart in sites which gets us away from the ding, ding, car radio, headlights and so forth...For sure not the same experience of being on the trail but with nice long day hikes, then heading back to camp for a beer, steak and a stogie is not a bad way to go sometimes...
