yes silvrsurfr that is it. i'm sure it'll come in handy for something. i figured it would be to weak, but i couldn't resist getting it. i have a bad habit of buying rope/cord for no reason at all. will the cord i bought be good enough for using as a line to hang my tarp on? i'm not worried about weight. just curious if it's at least good enough for that.

$2.98 for a 75 ft. length is a great price. I bought a few of these.

It's fine for a tarp ridgeline. Not too stretchy, but I moved onto 1.75 mm Zing-It, which is not that expensive at $25 to $30 for 180 ft. roll. Some vendors sell it by the foot if you just want to get a 30 or 40 ft. ridgeline.
I use that stuff for my crab traps, it floats and is high vis, but not the greatest when it comes to tensile strength. I am able to snap it by pulling it in case a trap gets snagged.

+1 for the good folks at whoopieslings.com

will single braid amsteel blue be strong enough? it says it has a 1600lbs breaking strength. i can get some from a local marine supply store. i'd hate to get it if it wont be strong enough. 1600lbs is a lot. the single braid is what worries me.

I think that you need the braided, so that you can bury the line. Here's an example & photos:

That is the strength of the most used here 7/64" Amsteel Blue. It is for splicing, not knot making.

Again, for human load divide by 11-15 for capacity. It is the strength you want. It is mentioned in hundreds of threads and many more posts here. (Whoopie slings, soft shackles, etc).

Look up the price at Redden Marine.Your local marine supply may be willing to price match. About $.21 /ft. Expect to pay >$.50 foot for high quality 2000lb BS covered SK-75 /Amsteel, if you prefer tying knots.
