Foothills Trail Thru Hike Possibly Easter Weekend

I am considering a thru hike of the Foothills Trail in the upstate of SC Easter weekend. The trail is ~78mi. I am hoping to knock it out Friday through Sunday afternoon. I've never atempted to do ~30mi in a day, but with my average hiking pace of 2.5mph it seems rather doable. I pack light, but am welcome to company, particularly those who want to move. I am waiting to hear back about some school work I may need to do that weekend, but if I can get it all done before hand. I should be free.

The plan would be to start at Oconee St park Friday morning around 7am and make it to the Sloan Bridge area by nightfall (~27mi). Wake up around 6:30am and make it to the Laurel Fork Falls campground by nightfall (~30mi). Wake up around 6:30am and make it to the car at Table Rock St park around 4pm (~20mi).

This plan is still in the works and may be moved to another weekend. Is anyone interested?

Wow. 30 mile days is very ambitious, especially on the Foothills Trail. I can't keep up with that pace, but have fun!

Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can.
    Pursuing it with eager feet
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say."

I've never done it and guess that there is only one way to try. I'm sure I could keep up the pace for 12hrs, but it wouldn't be a stop to smell the flowers kind of trip.

Best of luck to you. Not sure I could keep that pace, but it'd be worth a try if I could make it this coming weekend. Unfortunately, I already have plans with the wife for that weekend. I hope you have fun!

Be careful if you decide to drive home on Sunday; that's the kind of tired that causes folks to nod off behind the wheel. I'd recommend staying the night and then driving home on Monday, but that's only because I've come close to falling asleep myself before.

Have a great and safe time.

Well, I'm not tied to Easter weekend and would love to have the company. To prevent the nodding off behind the wheel, I would have someone drop me off in Oconee and pick me up at Table Rock (with a fresh shirt and some deodorant).

man the park to burrels ford was a hell of a hike for me, no way I could keep up. I'd love to do the trail at some point soon though, taking a week to do it

I think this is too much for me. I have to train more before I can achieve such a goal! But I also ant to go on a trip on the upcoming Easter week-end, but a smaller one. I can't wait and I'm really enthusiastic. Normally I visit a flower delivery in headingley leeds and pick up some flowers for the Easter Celebration there. Maybe I will do this this year too but not with the car ;D

    Question

Although you may not be stopping to "smell the flowers," can you take a few photos and give us a trip report next week? Would love to find out how you did and see some of the scenery! I did most of this hike in the brutal heat of last summer. Needless to say, no 30-mile days.

I'm 100 % sure I can't keep that pace. I've done a 20 ml day on the foothills but payed for it the next day and that was the easier part of the trail. Good luck on your adventure, and take some Icyhot.
