    venting with a cat cut

Since I've never used a cat cut on an underquilt, I can't say with any authority, but from Digitizer's diagram, I would guess you might loosen the suspension leading to the four corners, thereby reducing how snug the UQ lay against the hammock.

If you do try the cat cut on the ends, I'd really like to hear how that works for you. Good luck!

I'd guess that you would want the suspension leading from the corners to rise at about a 45* angle outward. Maybe in conjunction with those triangles I've seen mentioned in the forums.

I just wanted to give an update on my down underquiltI did away with the cat cut ends. I thought that the elestic top side would be enough of a chalenge on my first attempt at this.

I have completed the sewing to the point that I now need to stuff the quilt.

I spent most of today removing down from old coats. I am up to 1 and a half construction bags of down.

I have no idea how much I will need.

Thanks for all the commetts and if you are interested in following this project i have been documenting as I go with videos on youtube.

Well the underquilt is finally complete! I am a little concerned about how thick it is. It fluffs up to arond 8 inches I planed on about 6 inches but with all the down I stuffed in the quilt it got bigger and bigger.

Check out some videos of the build process on youtube

Thanks and I will add some picture of it in use once it gets cold again.

Hey Digitizer, I'm curious to know what type of temp ratings you get in that monster.

It looks like you could sleep comfortably at the North Pole with that quilt!

Biophthera on YouTube has top quilt made this way. He is currently hiking the PCT and it has gotten him down to some fridged temps.
