    Hammock Stand

Hello All, I'm new to the forums and hammock camping. I just ordered my Warbonnet. I dont have trees in my yard or even a fence that i can attach it to. Does anyone know of a kit or a way i can make a hammock stand? I would like to test out my hammock with different types of pads before i take it on the trail. Thanks

Commercial stands are pretty easy to find, but I don't know why anyone would pay all that money for something that could be made in an afternoon at half the cost. A search of the forums and gallery should give you plenty of ideas.

Welcome to HF from Alabama. If you want to build a stand look in the DIY forum for some plans. Something else you could do that I think would be much easier would be to dig a couple of holes the proper distance apart and put in a couple of posts. Just be sure you get them deep enough and put some concrete in the holes around them. Then you have a place to hang out under the stars right there in your own yard. From what I have read most people say that a 4 x 4 post will flex or bend a little and they instead recommend a 6 x 6 post instead. This is a pretty nifty setup that youu can hang in whenever you feel like it. You will like the Blackbird. They are really nice. Happy Hanging.

    Welcome to the forums!

    There is one HERE.

EDIT: Tremendous amount of force being applied to the uprights, not just your weight but much more based on the angle of your straps/cordage.

I added 6x6 posts in my yard. Here's a post with pics.

There's more good ideas in that thread as well.

I built this for about $40 in less than 2 hours. Has been holding up really well and the directions are super easy to follow.

I like the buried 6x6's best. Already been on my butt once and am pretty sure a piece of pine running under me, wouldn't have made for a nice landing.

You guys are lucky to get cheap wood. I wanted to build a stand like that and went to the DIY shops. When I saw the prices just for the wood it was a no-go (8 - 2'x4'x8' = $150).

I went for a Byer Vario type of stand. Its not as beautifully crafted, but the advantage is that it's not heavy, disassembled it fits into cars of less than 3.5 tons or in my garden shed for winter storage and it may be even be accepted indoors by my wife.
