I'm writing this, laying in my HH Exp deluxe with a mmss mummy bag on me right now. It is in the lower 50's and raining its butt off. Using the light patrol bag, with a wool blanket under me I am more comfortable than if I was in my bed.

It takes some wriggling about, but I say use what you have to head out in the bush. There is no need to buy pricey UQ and OQ to just simply stay warm in a hammock. I used my issued gear and have been comfortable down in the teens without special pricey hammock gear.

Try out what you have before buying anything.

I find you may pay more for the DJ with the double layer, but it is inexpensive in the long run when compared to buying another HH hammock and then getting buying the Super Shelter too help stay warm. Just my $.02. Plus the material of the DJ is so much nicer.

I've slept a few times in my mummy bag, but it gets hot. I have the supershelter and end up using my bag as a TQ. It's a pain to get in and out of any bag if you don't have the zipper mod.

I use a military issued Intermediate mummy bag with the CCF pad cut to fit the inside of the bag. I sleep better in my HH than I do in my own bed. Getting in and out can be a pain until you figure things out, after that it's a breeze. I say practice, practice, practice, you'll get it eventually. You have a quality hammock and just go to the local Army Navy store and get a $6 CCF pad and you're set to start experimenting with what works for you.

    HH and Wiggy bag

I"m in Michigan with a HH expedition and Wiggy ultra lite and would make the following observations. I have a a 2QZQ side zip which makes adjusting gear much easier if you don't have to concern yourself with bugs. I found the Wiggy bag to still provide warmth down into the mid 30's last year without Cold Butt Syndrome. Down into the low 30's and high 20's I experimented with either the HH super shelter or Exped Synmat 7 and was still toasty.
