Mummy style sleeping bag with HH?

I use a mummy bag with a HH bottom entry. I just have the bag open inside the hammock, with just the foot box closed. I climb into the hammock, lay on the bag and zip up as required. Never really been a problem.

I used to use a foam pad, cut to mummy size (with added wings in the hip area) inside the hammock, but was a pain to be honest. It always seemed to want to escape from under you when/if you moved during the night. Now I use the HH SuperShelter and OverCover (when needed).

So... for the Noob here.. I have a HH Asym and just ordered an UQ from Wiggy's .. question: with the UQ and a mummy bag is it still necessary to use a pad for warmth..?

when did Wiggy start making hammock underquilts? If it does not hang under the hammock body you will still need a pad.

Have you considered the HH Deep Jungle? It is two layers and you can slide in the included double bubble pad. You can then use your mummy like a TQ. I love the soft material of the Deep Jungle. I have the XL and it sure is nice.

I lived for 6 months with my HH and a sleeping bag during my AT thru-hike. I found it quite easy to get in and out of the bag inside my hammock. Note, however, that I think it was much easier due to having a left zip bag.

I put the sleeping bag inside the hammock, zipped open nearly all the way. Back into the hammock and sit down so your butt is in the correct spot in the sleeping bag, lean back and swing your legs into the foot section of the bag. Now it's easy to zip up and get into position with a minimum of wriggling about, though I often do need to reach up and pull the hood of the bag up over my head.

It was a bit awkward the first couple of times, but quickly became easy and second-nature.

This is a fleece mummy bag liner that I have. I tie the drawstring to a prusik on the ridgeline. It keeps the head end in a relatively fixed location. The same could be done with any mummy bag by sewing a loop on the head end and running some line through it to the prusik.

I use a 20 degree down mummy and have had no problems.

I also have a HH, but was ready to sell it when 2Q/ZQ came along offering to modify HHs with zippers. After I had that done, it was a keeper. I've slept in in down to 5 degrees comfortably in my own yard (it was a test). That was with a good insulated sleeping pad, a very "heavy duty" down bag, a HH undershield, a good space blanket under that, and my large pack cover as an overshield. I also put a heated Nalgene bottle in my sleeping bag. Toasty!

Usually for spring-to-fall, I use my 20 degree REI Sub-Kilo down bag, unzipped, as a down comforter, with a choice of sleeping pads based on the temps. I might take one (or two) small sections of CCF to put wherever I have a cold spot. When sleeping on my side, that means my butt and/or knees.

How you tie the rain fly (up high, down low) can affect how warm you stay.

It's possible to use a mummy style bag in a HH. Many people do. At those temps, you'll still want some extra insulation under you.

As for getting into a sleeping bag in a HH. The best way I've seen is to put a pice of Tyvek, etc. down on the ground (to keep bag clean). Stand by the hammock and get into the bag. Then slip into the HH and sit down. It's much easier that way than trying to get into the bag inside the hammock.

I have a HH, but sent it off to 2QZQ for a zipper mod. I don't use the HH much anymore, but since the zipper mod, I've never once used the bottom entry. Just a personal preference, but thought I'd mention it since you're asking for opinions.
