No hardware hang, need help with knots.

I'm not sure where to post so please feel free to move if necessary .

I want to hang a hammock in my shed with no hardware . so what I'm finding difficult about this is the knot to use. I secured the rope to the hammock no problem. now I need to take the rope run it up to my anchor point and then back down and tile to self. I'm just notsure what knot would work best in for application . The tricky part is I would like the knot to be able to slide up and down yet still be strong enough to hold my weight. This would allow for easy adjustments. So does that make sense ? So what knot would work best for this?

How about a truckers hitch? Tie the loop in the line close to the hammock, go up the the anchor point, down thru the loop (trucker hitch style) and secure. You might want to fancy up the securing knot a bit... something a bit more substantial than a slippery half hitch anyway. Thats my first guess, I'll keep thinking on it.
    Good luck,

This depends on what type of rope you are using, but a taut-line hitch is perfect for this. You may want to tie two of them on each side just in case the first one decides to run the second will anchor it.

I have used, with success, a slippery tautline hitch with 2 additional wraps to create additional friction. That was a one time deal just to see if it would work and it did. I did not lay in it long so I can't say if it would have slipped soome or not.

I am planning to start hanging with knots as well and getting away from using additional devices. I am planning to use a 1" tree strap and amsteel for the suspension. The knot I am considering is a slippery sheet bend. It doesn't adjust as you mention and I may have to re-tie a few times but I think with more practice with setup, I can dial in the right heights and lengths to avoid multiple re-ties. Plus... knots are cool because not everyone is comfortable using them so it really shows off some skill to use them properly.

    Good Luck...

If you want it adjustable, I'd use a rolling hitch on it's own part. This can be tied with either the bight of the rope or the end. Finish it off with a couple of half hitches or another rolling hitch. Ensure you tie it with the required direction of pull, otherwise you'll hit the deck as soon as you lay in the hammock:

EDIT: Just realised a rolling hitch is what you guys are referring to as a taut line hitch..

When I hang mine at home I use whoopies which the fixed loop larks headed to the hammock, and the adjustable end on my anchors. I get an adjustable suspension and no hardware like you want. I have hooks for my anchor points but if you have rings you could use a nacre biner made out of am steel.

I've recently tried the icicle hitch and the pole hitch. Snoman posted a video on the pole hitch and in that thread someone brought up the icicle hitch. They are both very secure but can slide when not loaded. I even tried them on both ends of a piece of wooden dowel to see how secure they are. They both did not slip off the dowel either while laying in my hammock. They are also very handy hitches to know.

I like that knot quite a bit! Thanks for sharing and compliments on the exceptional job on the video.
