I seem to get one in my left calf when I am putting on my shoe in a hammock. It's not specific to any brand of hammock either. The absolute worst was while snorkeling. If I didn't know how to float that one would have been deadly. But hammocking it's pretty consistent. Put on my left shoe and fight the cramp.

When I get them worse than what's normal for me, it is usually a clue that I need to drink more water. I'm prone to muscle knots and cramps though.

I get them from time to time. I think it is because I am laying really diagonal and my feet press against the hammock wall. I found that if I stuff a towel, sit pad, or down jacket between my feet and the hammock wall it helps.

Lack of potassium but also lack of magnesium can be a cause. Some people get great relief from a supplement called MSM that contains these electrolytes plus a couple of others.

Also, as mentioned above, quinine IS a muscle relaxer. My eye doctor told me to drink tonic water for eye twitches!

+1 on what DivaB said. I get muscle cramps (charlie horses), but they're no worse in a hammock than in my bed.

Be Careful What You Are Ingesting!

If you have medical conditions or are taking Rx's. Potassium pills can get your medication off. Cardiac conditions in particular require care in adding Sodium and Potassium.

My mother and son have awful leg cramps. We never found a cure or help.

Extra Potassium in the form of Bananas, Baked Potato or Avacado help.

Pickle Juice is full of Sodium and all kinds of chemicals.

What I am saying is give some thought to what you are putting into your system. We used Quinine until the Federal Government removed it from the drug store shelves.

I get some "Bloody Awful" cramps from the Cardiac drug, I have to us. The only thing that helps is an ice pack. Shaking out worked on normal cramps or charlie-horses, these new super duper, double you over cramps only are helped by ice.
