a few weeks ago my son and I camped in a local forest. We went into a large stand of red pine to get off the trail. while setting up camp we heard a god-awful noise that sounded like a goose being torture. We wandered around trying the find the source and eventually spotted two blue herons in the top of one of the red pi9nes.

I don't know their habbits but I would think it was a little late in the season to be mating. Perhaps they were protecting their nest from some other critter. They made that horrible sound off and on all night and every time they started it woke us up.

Last weekend me, my brother Adam, and a buddy of Ours Mike spent a night in a local camp ground. Around 1:00 I hear them wondering around and I here what sounds like one of them eating some chips. Then I hear Mike say "It's in my Jeep" quickly followed by my brother proclaiming "It's eating my {Insert colorful expletive here} Cheetos". I guess Mike had left the top off his Jeep and Adam had left a bag of Cheetos laying in the back seat which a Raccoon was happily sitting on the seat chomping away at. I think they both learned valuable lessons that night .

That picture of the heron is awesome neo. That tarp really blends in with nature for the bird to have used it as a perch. Where were you guys camping at?
