    A quick overnighter

I made a quick run up to one of my hunting spots to check things out.
This was my 1st time this year in the hammock. I used a friends a couple times last year and loved.

I'm still learning a few things and I thought I would pass them along.

    1. even though my feet were higher than my head I still found myself sliding down at night. Last year when I used my friends I did not have this problem. The solution I think is to hang the hammock with more tention. I also tend to think that it depends on your build. I'm fairly stocky from years of lifting weights and playing sports. I think that is why I slide down because I'm broad and thick.

Last year I hung the hammock fairly taught but after being on this forum I thought I would try it with a little more slack.

    2. I need a pad or something under me. Last year I slept in colder weather with my winter back and did just fine with just my jacket under me. I used my 20+ bag and tossed and turned with cold spots all night, even with my jacket under me. I want somthing very lightweight. I think I'll go to home depot and see if I can't pick up some of that window reflector stuff. You know, the silver bubble wrap type stuff.

    Here are some picks.

Now THAT'S camping. I have no desire to campground 'camp'.

Looks like a solo trip. Were you scouting elk?
The harder I work, the luckier I get.

That first pic is beyond words.......I'm speachless.
Go to Wally World instead and pic up a 24" wide closed cell pad.
Or better yet, pick up a 20" wide one there and get yourself a Speer SPE.

    Yes, this is the Uintahs.
Yes, it was a solo trip, to my elk grounds.
Utah has some realy messed up season dates. Elk/Deer starts 8/16/08.
Where abouts at wally world do you find the foam pad, camping? Is it lighter than the sun shade stuff?

Anyone know what plant this is?

Yes, camping section, they are 20in wide currently and I second the reccomendation for a Speer SPE, get the 2plus2 model. You can also use a thermarest with the SPE.

Hey RT and 3D, I spent 2 years in Layton ( 85-87)! Plus I have made many trips to ski and camp Utah since then. As soon as I saw those pics I thought " Oh boy, the High Uintahs"!

It reminds me of a trip I took up- was it?- Bear creek into Amethyst Basin? Are those names right?

Anyway, if this Septs Wind River Wyoming trip does not work out for some reason ( forest fires, whatever) the Uintahs will be down for one of the alternates, since we fly into SLC anyway.

I live in Heber City right out side of the Uintas. I believe you are correct. about Amethyst basin. That lake up there is one of the best fishing spots I have ever had the pleasure of using. And one of the most beautiful too.
