Where are you going in Alaska? It is a really big place after all.

That's a good question to ask on advrider. Lots of AK bike trips logged on there.

First, you better do a trip report because that is an AWESOME trip!

Second, you are going to run into some trouble in certain places. However, you mostly will be good to go. I think the Brooks range and north will be the section you won't be able to do.

However, my suggestion is to mapquest your drive and just look at satellite images to see where the trees and such are.

I think this is completely out of the "trip" catagory, we're talking full blown MIGRATION now!

sounds like a load of fun.

It depends on your definition of doable. You will find many treeless places before you get to Canada. My solution is to use my tarp as a shelter when needed. I ditched the hiking poles and modified a pair of Kelty adj. tarp poles with plans to hang from them ( not accomplished yet. but close). I will also be taking sleeping pad to protect my hammock if I need to use it as a bivy. I will say it can be done, especially if you do not give yourself any other options. That is the decision I have made I will just be doing a test run from Oregon to Texas next month, and then Alaska next year.

If your going in the summer, and staying below the artic circle, you'll be fine. They get 80* days there in peak summer months. I'd bring my TiGoat Cylinder Stove and Smokehouse tarp if it was me. I'm definetly jealous, I hope to make it up there some day in the nearby future. Ever since I saw **** Proenneke's videos I've been hooked on wanting to go myself.

Check your route multiple times before you go. Plan where you are going to camp at. Check on hotels before you go to. You might run into some nasty weather and have to stay somewhere.
