    Amsteel with rings

I just this weekend used amsteel from my hammock an attached it to my tree straps using repel rings. I noticed when I took it all apart the repel rings left flat places on the amsteel and I was wondering if that would cause any deterioration to the amsteel. Is there a better option? My tree strap has a ring on the end of it but I could use use a toggle instead of rings.

Here's a thread that discusses flattening of the amsteel with rings : http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...6258#post86258. That post leads to this one... http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=3762 and on and on we go.

I'm guessing that you used a Garda hitch. If that is the case, it should not be used with lines under 4mm and has a suggested load limit of 220lb.

An alternate method would be to larks head or prusik to two rings and then "buckle" the webbing into the rings and stop it with a slippery half hitch.

I branched the in depth discussion here: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=51234

Well, I was branching it off so that we wouldn't hijack your thread. If your initial intent was to dive a whole lot deeper into the minutia of the subject in a detailed, more scientific manner, then I do apologize for the branching.

Branching it off is fine with me, no apology needed. I'd just like to have someone that knows more than me (not narrowing that down any) to tell me if my concern is ok or not. Doesn't matter to me in what thread it's answered. If there's a better place for it that's fine by me. Thanks for handling it.
