    New Hanger!

Hey everyone, I am new to HH and hanging in general. Picked one up to save on space in my kayak and because of all the good reports I have heard about them. I got the Hennessy Explorer Asym Deluxe. Set it up in my backyard yesterday (as soon as I got home with it ) and have a couple questions...

First, what is the ideal distance between trees?

Second, do you typically put another ridge line for tarp so it doesn't touch the hammock anywhere?

Looking forward to learning more about it, I never realized that hammocks could be so involved!

    Quick pic of my setup:

Looks like your set up is about right . I pace off 5-6 steps for my best tree distance, never really measured it in feet just use paces. I do not use a separate ridge line for the fly, never thought about it until reading in the forum. I have been out in some really hard downpours and stayed dry by pulling the fly down closer to the hammock.

I've got a few posts that hopefully help in estimating the proper hang.

As WVScouter said, it's about 5-6 steps, or around 3 paces. Reach. Hang.

I've also set up a Hammock Hang Calculator so you can punch in the numbers.

I do not use a separate tarp ridgeline. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!

I guess I won't bother with the separate ridgeline for the tarp.

I have a thermarest ridge rest solite to use as insulation, has anyone had any experience using this?
