    mamajamba vs superfly

Newb here, looking at getting into the whole hanging scene. Looking at the WBBB, but have some tarp questions.

From what I can see, the only diff between the mama and she superfly is the doors.

Am I correct in this? How necessary are the doors? Are they woth the extra weight?

Essentially what I want to know is who wins mama vs superfly (prison rules of course)?

Superfly wins hands down in opinion, but I'm not a gram counter. Its better to have doors and not need them, than to need them and not have em.

Doors come in handy in the MN neck of the woods if you go in cooler or cold wether.

i have the BMJ and DIY'd doors for it, that way i can leave the doors behind if i want to and save the weight

when i ordered mine i just didn't like the idea of having the doors permanently attached and be forced to carry that additional weight when i didn't want too

and it seems when i do use the doors i usually only end up adding them only to one end (which ever way blocks the most wind)

I don't have the BMJ, but I just ordered the Superfly.

I've spent a lot of time and ear bending those more experienced to come to that decision over the last week or so. I like the insurance of having the doors all the time given the weather in my part of MN (near Lake Superior). I figure I'll need more times than not during the times of year I'll use this tarp.

I really wanted a Speer Winter Tarp, but decided that at the price they're going for as a discontinued item, the Superfly with the panel pull outs already installed for just a few dollars more was the better choice for me.

I bought the Superfly and LOVE it!!!! So far I have only set it up in the backyard to play with but it should be seeing some trail time very soon! The weight doesn't bother me that much for the coverage it provides.

i think alot of it comes down to.......where and how you are going to be using it

if i lived in Minnesota like you and also Shug and Ascott, i probably would of ordered the superfly too

but seeing as i knew i would be doing 90% of my hanging in the Black Hills of S.D. where we don't get the wind as bad i went for the BMJ

of course the doors would be handy in Minnesota for keeping out he sparrow sized mosquito's

If you want to create a tent around your hammock... Superfly

If you want smaller coverage but still have the ability to keep inclement weather out... BMJ

If you are thinking of hammocking year round... the Superfly is your best 4 season tarp choice.
