    Sharing a tarp

There has to be threads about this but I can't figure out what to search for... oh well.

What kind of tarp is good for covering two hammocks? I was going to get a SuperFly, then I realized I probably couldn't close the doors with two hammocks hanging there. Maybe if the hammocks share one of the trees, I can close that side a bit... but the angle would probably be too wide then.

    Experience, anyone?

Hey, G. Search the GALLERY for "two hammocks" and you'll see photos of several two-hammock set ups. Mr. Pips and I use our (true) 12 x 12 Guide Gear tarp and try to use the same tree for the foot ends and two closely-spaced trees for the head ends of our hammocks. We often run a very tight line between the two head-end trees. Then we center the tarp between them by attaching the tarp ridge line to the center of the line between the trees. If the trees are big enough, you can hang two hammocks from the same two trees--off-setting each hammock to one side or the other.

Some people (especially with children) hang one hammock ABOVE the other from the same two trees. Good luck!

    Aha, that makes sense!
With either of those solutions, my current WinterTarp will probably do just fine.
    Thank you.

About 3 years ago my wife wanted to start hanging with me. We were at the Ozark hang and seen UncleMJM's setup for 2 hammocks. It worked, but I think he was interested in something different with more Privacy for his wife. I told him about a new design I was going to make, so I made both of us one and UncleMJM named it... The Honeymoon Suite... Made several more after that. You have to have 3 trees or a 3rd to hang from. here are a few pic's.

    Superfly for 2

I got the Superfly (and the removable doors which was an option when I purchased it) specifically so I would have room for me and one of my kids or my wife under it. We use my hiking poles as spreader bars to keep our hammocks separated or two different trees at one end (even better). We also have our hammocks open toward the center to provide the most headroom while getting in or out. One thing that I like about the removable doors is that the doors can be connected under the hammock suspensions giving a better seal at the ends of the tarp. You can see what I'm describing in the pictures. Plus when I'm solo the Superfly is an absolute palace providing ample room to hang out or cook when the "weather outside is frightful...".

Thanks for your pictures, both setups look great. Now I know what's possible if my current tarp feels insufficient.

I've used the Kelty Noah's 12 x 12 for two hammocks, seen some folks with hammocks side by side and some bunk bed style with smaller tarps.

My preference by far is the Honeymoon Suite by Smokehouse mentioned above. If you can get him to build one for you, you will have the best solution to dating in the trees I've found.
