    Isle Royale Trip Planning

Hey'all, looking to scrounge up some info/tips from those whom have hiked Isle Royale NP. I've a group of four thinking about a week long thru in early June. What I would love to hear are the must-visits best sites, camps, things to avoid, etc. If you had a week,(6 days) on the island how would you do it, traversing end to end being the only real requirement?
    Thanks much!

Make sure you carry water treatment that can handle tapeworm eggs. You don't want those guys.

+1 to that. So thats basically filter or boil, I don't think the steri pen or chemicals do the job on those eggs. Other than that its a beautiful island, it'd be hard not to enjoy any part of it. There's some nice views from the fire tower.
    Good luck,

It's the least visited of all National Parks but has the highest number of return visitors of any National Park.
It's ranked consistently in the top three places for solitude in North America according to a few outdoor magazines.

I have yet to get there and hope to next year.

Ive done two week-long backpack trips there with Scout troop crews. My favorite spot was Todd Harbor (incredible sunsets) on both trips. Here's what we did for an end to end hike: take ferry from Copper Harbor to Rock Harbor and hike to Daisy Farm for first night. Take ferry west to Windigo in the morning, and begin hiking east on Greenstone trail. Continue on Greenstone trail until connector that goes by Hatchet Lake to Todd Harbor. Then east on Minong trail and pick a route that gets you back to Rock Harbor for ferry to mainland. Avoid Chickenbone East, least favorite place we stayed. We had to stay in group sites because of the size of our group, but you will have more flexibility. Odds of moose encounters are best in eastern half of island, though the moose population has been decimated by ticks. Watch out for human-habituated kleptomaniac foxes in Daisy Farm to Rock Harbor area. Will run off with gear like your boot and you'll never get it back. You will definitely notice the skeeters, so be sure your bug protection is excellent. Its headnet country for sure. You've been warned
