Mamajamba, ever get wet?

Just curious since I have a BMJ coming...how crazy does the weather need to get before you're worried about getting wet? Has it happened to you?

I'm thinking about getting the optional doors, but may hold off until I feel I actually need them. Thanks!

I have never gotten wet on any of my tarps/////........so far!
Practice a good pitch, be adept at hanging the tarp low and high, Site selection is paramount if you have the option (not already pitched).
Doors help in that case. Weathershield can help as well if you know the weather is going to be extra windy , cold and blowy.
Nothing works better than learning a lesson out in the field.

For what it's worth I slept in my Blackbird for the first time using my BMJ and of course it rained for a few hours .fairly hard at times. The tarp performed perfect ! I was very impressed.

Judging from the number of tarps /rain flys sold here with the assurance to potential buyers in the listing that the tarp itself has never gotten wet, there is that other way to take the OP's question.

Would those sellers promising a never-wet tarp feel obligated to tell if they had gotten wet along with the tarp ,that the tarp leaked? So, better only to hang in dry weather, even in the back yard?

Wondering....and preparing for rain tonite and this weekend.

In business, your marketing can't be rational. You have to appear to be the best. Pointing out details or circumstantial exceptions to your product's capibites yields an appearance of weakness. I know the OP is asking about a tarp he intends to or currently does use, so I was taking the opp to wonder about the amount of gear that seems never to have been tested before resale. Like a wonderful 4 year old bike "with < 2000 miles, and never driven in the wet." Huh?

I can appreciate the value of absolutely new. I know too well the risk of camp-fire sparks to tarps (and an HF member who is in denial of that risk and failure before he sells expensive hammocks and tarps). But, personally, if there were a chance that the quality of seam-sealing mattered, I'd rather buy a tarp from a trusted member who had seamsealed and confidentally reported no leaks than going out with a tarp which benefitted from seam sealing, had been sealed, but had not been tested.

(From another thread, it is my understanding that Warbonnet's tarps are seamed and sewn so that seam-sealing is optional for wet weather.)
