    Tarp Hanging Questions

Noob here so please be as kind as I see you folks are with noobs and their questions. Can you run a long whoopie sling off one ridge tie-out around the tree and the connect (dutch biner or toggle) it to a fixed eye off the opposite ridge tie-out. There must be something I'm not thinking of with all of the tinkerers on this site. I just ordered a Guide Gear 11'x11' to hang over my diy gathered end hammock. Many thanks.

I'm not 100% sure what you're describing, but a whoopie sling requires you to be able to "un-weight" it or create slack to loosen it. If you use one as a ridgeline, it can be extremely difficult to loosen.

    Thats what I was missing

That is the thing I was not thinking of. Can you connect the tarp to the same marlin spike hitch as your hammock suspension. With the correct size tarp of course. Guyout tension might be tricky to get right.

Use some in-line bungees to fix the tarp tension. For my tarp ridge line I use a long whoopie and a bungee loop to keep it tensioned and be able to loosen the aforementioned stuck whoopie.

Unless Guide Gear has changed their design from the older one I had, you will have to add a tarp tie out on each end to the center ridge line.

I think a whoopsie is over kill for a tarp.

I use zing it and use a prussic to slide the tarp. 9 times out of 10, I don't fool with the prussic and just tie the tarp RL around a tree and back to the D ring on each end.

Ask, don't tie to the hammock suspension. When your hammock sags when you get in, the tarp loossens. I know HH does this, but it's better tied to the tree.

I teach rope rescue & love using prussicks, I just had an extra whoopie left over from a noobie order error, so I thought, what the heck, works great on my setup. Stormed on me all night Friday, and held up like a champ.
But I agree, whoopies can be overkill on a tarp, especially if the get locked up. That's why I use the bungee, it keeps tarp tight & no lockup.

You may find you'll get a tighter pitch to the tarp by securing it to the tree rather than the hammock suspension. Having the tarp and hammock suspension separate is also good for rainy days because you can set up your tarp and then set up your hammock or cook or whatever.
