    Question Will this do?

Hey everyone. I'm pretty new to hammock camping and am wanting to make a tarp. I don't want to cheap out and buy a hard to pack/bulky WW "blue" tarp, but I'm also not in the market to buy a very expensive tarp. I'm wondering how this material will do as far as rain protection. http://www.diygearsupply.com/cgi-bin/shelf.cgi?numb=16
I know it says it is waterproof, but will the waterproofing slowly lessen since it is a coating and not impregnated? Pretty much, how long will this last me as a tarp?

Any PU or Sil coated nylon will work... But if you're on a budget, it's hard to beat these tarps:

Weight is a consideration if you're backpacking, these aren't super light.

That's awesome. Just what I'm looking for. Thanks!

Pu coated is heavier than sil impregnated. PU is more waterPROOF than sil, but sil is pretty water proof.

Sil stretches a little when wet, but that is a property of nylon.

Seam sealing and repairing a pu tarp is easier. More commercial products available.
The only thing that sticks to sil nylon is silicone and there are a couple home brews and 1 or 2 commercial products available.

Tent flies almost exclusively use pu coated.

    I have 4 sil tarps,but I make them.
