    SL v. DL

I am debating between a 1.1 SL and a 1.1 DL and I am not familiar enough with the product personally know know the advantages and disadvantages of each. I wish I had some friends who could lend me theirs, but alas, I do not.

So, that being said, I am asking all the experts here at HF: What are the advantages and disadvantages of the DL and SL blackbirds?

Also, what's the difference between the 1.1 and 1.7? The materials used? Or is it color only? Can the coloring process during manufacturing affect nylon's properties, as in it's durability?

Oops, this might be off topic. If the OP wants me to delete my comment I will.

Your question is easy, 1.1 and 1.7, ect., refer to the weight per square yard of the material, with 1.1 being very light, and 1.9 being heavier, or thicker. The larger the number the heavier a particular hammock will be. Color should be only cosmetic.

One theory is that the DL offers more protection from skeeters biting through the bottom, into your bottom.

The DL will hold more weight, thus making the proper lay easier to achieve.

The DL will hold a pad in place better, if you choose to use a pad instead of an UQ.

The DL is heavier, which makes a difference if you're a gram weenie.

With the heavier material holding more weight.

How is the DL better at holding a pad? I have heard everyone say that it is better for pads, but why is this?

The pad goes between the two layers and holds the pad as opposed to the pad being between you and the hammock.

I have even stuck a extra sleeping bag in there for some comfortable padding.

I didn't know you could actually stick something between the layers! Oh wow. That would make sleeping on a pad way easier, or even using 2 pads, if I want to get crazy
