The one at the hard rock didn't really look like that one, which is the one primarily featured on the floatingbed.com website.
The Hard Rock one only had 4 chains holding up the platform. And, instead of that "spider web" for a platform, it had that weather resistant plasticy material that you'd find on a trampoline with holes all around the outside, just without the springs that give it that REAL bounce.. and string insted. Don't remember how it was tied to the ring exactly, but I read on their website that they have some special way to adjust the tautness of the "sheet".
As soon as I find a small enough trampoline....
Then I'll have to come up with some type of "weather resistant" sheet, similar to the one on a larger trampoline. Hmm....
I guess I just need two trampolines. Perhaps I could just contact a trampoline manufacturer. Hmm.....

Did any of you use to wind up your friend on a swing, and let them loose?
I wonder how that would work out on that bed, after having one or two too many?

I like the rocking part, but fail to see how one can achieve the comfort that we get in a hammock. Do they sell round memory foam?
The Floating Bed company themselves actually sell it...
for $590!!!

I believe the comfort is greater than any hammock I've been in. Bridge [& spreader bar] hammocks -- that lay flat -- are better than those that you have to lay diagonally. Hammocks are better than cots, because of the sway... but cots aren't all that "uncomfortable" really, because there are no pressure points of any kind. I feel like the hammock sway isn't all THAT important to the hammock lay, but it's nice. I much prefer the "no pressure point" aspect.
Sooo... the reason I'm so infatuated with this Floating Bed is because it takes the "no pressure point" lay of a bridge hammock or cot... and it provides that in addition to not just a sway, but a TRUE ROCK. I can only "rock" in a straight line with a hammock, at all times. But with this "floating trampoline" platform, the circular rock is simply surreal. 360 degrees is better than no degrees.
I would contact this company about the "weather resistant/proof" material that was at the casino pool, but considering their asking prices... I'm not even going to bother. The trampoline material seems very similar, perhaps just thinner. From memory, the closest thing that the material reminded me of was seatbelts. If you could have seat belt material in a circle with 8 ft diameter, I think you'd have a pretty good replica of what their outdoor setup looked like.
Should try to get pictures if I'm down there in the next week or two.
So I've seen this a few times over the past year or so and have been waiting for the impetus to get me to get started on it.
I finally decided to go for it!
Searched on craigslist and found an 8ft trampoline on sale for $10 with fully intact metal frame and and mesh, etc.
Now for putting the rest together... if you guys re interested i can take some pics.
I don't see how it will support you any differently than a conventional bed. If anything I imagine that it will sag in the middle, like a trampoline, but of course to a much lesser degree.
To me this is an alternative to a conventional bed with no relationship to a hammock, other than it swings. Still, if it meets your needs then by all means go for it and enjoy.

I'm VERY interested!!!
I should be riding my bike near the casino and will take pics of the "official" outdoor version later today. Will post them up by tomorrow.
Knotty, there is sag, but to a VERY limited degree. Supposedly, there's some easy way to adjust how tight the "sheet" is, but I wasn't looking at it that hard the first time I saw it. I'd say it was pretty tight. I prefer laying as flat as possible, so that's fine with me. But it's not like laying on a floor, where there's no give whatsoever, and that goes especially toward pressure points of any kind. Sure it's like a bed, I guess.... but many beds even have pressure points in one form or another, say, springs.
Also, beds don't sway. I guess technically a hammock rocks and this thing sways. I didn't like rocking in hammocks too much when I first got into 'em, but it grew on me. No problem with it at all now, but I much prefer the sway of this baby. It's just heavenly.
No pressure points + Heavenly sway = AMAZING LIFE
Really, I am willing to bet that SurfinBirdman's quality of life goes up by at least 30%. Can't wait to see the final product. I'll be on the lookout for one myself.
