    Portable stand for treeless beach?

Is this the right place for this "accessory"?

A friend of mine and I have been planning to go camping on Bear Island, NC. AKA Hammocks Beach State Park. I have contacted the rangers there who have confirmed that there are very few trees there, and not to expect to hammock camp while visiting.

Anyone have ideas of the simplest, best way to still do the hammocks given the circumstances?

We'll most likely be renting kayaks to get over there, so any portable stand type idea would have to be fairly small.

Any comments on anchoring in the sand would also be most welcome.

There's a Bi-pod setup I saw on here somewhere that would probably work well.

I've seen those (I like the simplicity of them). Think either one would fit on or in a kayak?

Are you using sea kayaks or something smaller? As long as you have some bungees to stow the bipods on the deck I think you could do it. Basing my estimates on my hammock stand that's about 5' tall I think you could get by with 4' bipods max maybe even shorter if you don't mind hanging a bit close to the ground.

The folded dimensions for the anchorhammock stand are 96cm x 15cm or 3' x 6" for those of you from the only country on the planet not using the metric system.

The dimensions of the other approach depend on the length of poles and the materials you choose to use.

Sounds sacreligious, but if I have to be on the ground that's fine (in soft sand), but I'd like to have the rest of the hammock supported so that the sand fleas and critters don't sleep with me.

Depending on how long of a paddle to your destination, you could rent a second yak to use as your "water sherpa" and carry whatever portable hammock stands you will take.

I have towed a small inflatable raft with my yak carrying saws and stuff to clear out section of creek from some blown down trees.

    Just a thought.

That's a good thought. We could split a third kayak (I don't know what size they have) and use it as the mule. Then bring some bipod supports.

What about the anchoring in the sand?

For snow I use old blank CD's and bury them. I take a stick and tie the string in the middle and then slide the CD down to the stick. If you are creative, you can tie 2 or 3(one on top of the other) with string, separating them about 4 inches apart. Dig down in the sand and bury them. I havent done any beach yakking butI would think sand is similiar to snow. Other option is to take old onion sack or mesh bags, fill with rocks and bury. You could use the paddle as your shovel.

That is an excellent idea with the rope at the bottom of the home made stand. I made one with a rigid support in place of the rope. The rope is much more simple, space saving and just as effective.
