dont want to hijack this thread but I have a question along the same line. I do a lot of atv camping and was wondering (have not yet tried it) if the racks on most atvs could support a hammock. Either hang a hammock between two atvs or one tree and an ATV

I actually did that as an experiment during the trip although I used 2x4s formed like an X and then tied off to my trailer hitch. It worked quite well. I'd like to find something thinner and lighter than 2x4s. Are ski poles strong enough to support that much weight? I'd love to see a picture of it in action.

I drew up a hitch project a while ago, as far as I know nobody has built it yet. See the notes below the picture in the gallery.

Normally, this kind of pun leaves me with knots in my stomach. I guess that I fail to see the root of the humor in it. But rather than stick to the old chestnuts, or pine for a classic joke, I'm trying to branch out and turn over a new leaf in my appreciation of such humor.

I also have a Honda Element on which I installed the Thule roof rack system. After seeing the amount of hardware that holds the roof rack on there is NO WAY in hell I would hang from mine. (even if I was a little guy).

I think you'll rip some very important goodies off if you try to hang a hammock off your car. And bust yer butt.
    Just hangin' around.

Roll your front and rear window down and hang from the door beam!!

I have a fullsize Polaris ATV that weighs 750 lbs and that rack aint holding nothing!! might be able to use the bipod method and tie off to the hitch though!!
