Just a little west of Greyton SP is Topsail Hill Preserve SP that has a tent only section that has a few dedicated hammock sites.

I don't know if it's public knowledge yet, but Point Washington State Forest (not to be confused with state parks…) just installed four camp sites off from service road 7. I have a feeling it's still pretty secret, road seven doesn't even show up on their hunting/trail maps.

Blackwater State Forest (not to be confused with Blackwater State Park) does not restrict camping to campgrounds only. I have (primitive) camped out in random locations in that forest. My favorite is over at Red Rock Road at the cliffs.

I didn't make it to Topsail...sigh!

When I was at the Blackwater SF I stayed at Bear Lake. It was still hunting season there and I felt infinitely safer staying inside the no-hunting zone. Nice park btw, at least during the off-season, I understand that it can be quite the zoo during high camping season.

That it can. That's one of the other nice things about the location along Red Rock Road, there's no (legal) hunting in that block at all.

That is nice to know, though, I've never once been hassled by any rangers in any of the parks I've visited. At least I know I'm not breaking any laws.

I read through all of the posts. Maybe I missed it, but did Jax ever disseminate the final rules. The scouts are going to be at Oscar Scherer in the spring, and last time they did not want anything hanging from the trees.

Yes thank you. I was at rainbow river springs state park (less than a year ago) and i was asked to take my hammock down by a ranger. she said she knew about tree huggers and had her own hammock. she even claimed to be on hammock forums (at this point i was not a poster so i didn't ask for her name on here). I wonder if she has since been updated.

It would be nice to have a posting of final rules and a listing of known supported parks and sites.

I would like to add she was very nice and even suggested for me to hang the hammock in a covered pavillion since this would not cause tree damage. If she is reading this please let me know. It would be nice to meet you on here.

I noticed today the the St. Sebastion State Preserve has added a line allowing hammocks - "Hammock camping is allowed in this camping area." In the description for Camping, Equestrian; Camping, Group and Camping, Primitive. As there are 6 campsite listed on the map that probably covers all or most of them.
