Let me know how it goes. I'm planning another trip to Torreya in the fall. Hated tenting last year.

I just talked to the aid on the phone and she said that it turns out they didn't do much of anything because DEP had already come up with the new rule(s) but just hadn't gotten the word out fully yet until now... I guess that was my part in this whole thing (nudging the issue along).

I am going to get the new rule from the Senator's office as soon as they get it and will pass it along here for people to have with them when they call ahead (a good idea) or show up to camp.

I hope that Florida can be an example that others use to get hanging approved in other state parks. Let's do our best!

Thanks to all who helped in any way to accomplish this, and thanks to politicians and park officials in Fla. who are acting proactively to help the users of these great parks, keep up the good work. And no, I don't vote in Fla., but I do spend some vacation money there.

Just spoke with the Ranger at Torreya and they have not gotten the announcement yet. Probably need to give it a little more time for the word to get out. I just want to be able to use my hammock before it gets hotter than 'ell here.

    Thanks,

Here is what I would do. Either contact the park manager or have the ranger contact the park manager. Supposedly all of the park managers have been notified. If they haven't heard anything then let me know and I'll pass the word along to the Senator's office (they want to know if some haven't gotten the word). Be understanding and helpful (maybe volunteer to help educate them and/or pick trees that they will allow hammocks on). Don't forget to bring some straps of some sort for your tarp suspension since according to Rachel EVERYTHING attached to a tree needs a strap.

Also, keep your eyes peeled here for the actual rule number. I'll post it on the forum once I get it.
