    GROUND AND HAMMOCK Tarp help!

I have a local supply of tyvek and am hoping to make a 4 season tarp for ground and hammock use.
Im hoping to make it with doors so I can close it in, I would like it to be lower and wider than a conventional tarp when pitched with doors closed.

    1) I am hoping to get help with dimensions/ get a template so i can figure out how much I need.
    2) Any suggestions on making tie outs?
    All help is appreciated!

Tyvek is great to work with and from what I've gathered, you inject it pretty much the same as nylon and spinn. It is a great low cost way to perfect injection skills. But do a search, for the particulars. Most any template you find that is designed for the others should be very close. Just need to find one you like.

Tyvek will be heavier and much bulkier, than many other alternatives. With a well made one though, you'll in most cases be better off, than if you had a Wally World or Harbor Freight strapped to your back.

I still think, it's more useful fabricated, as doors, ground cloths, overmitts and booties, but many a DIYer have found Tyvek useful for prototyping new and daring designs. If you have a non-retail source, free is even better, it's great.

Based on Roll pricing for Tyvek, you can probably get only what you need of Spinn or Nylon from one of our great DIY cottage suppliers, cheaper. If you can get Tyvek cheaper or for free, makes the drawbacks much smaller.

Don't expect it to take dyes well if at all, and you'll probably need to run it through several wash cycles/NO DETERGENT, in order to obtain the suppleness desired, which will in turn make it quieter flapping in the wind when set up.

Some also say, dice or a smooth rock used to make tie-outs are as good if not better than ones poorly or inappropriately stitched. You can create a perforation condition, that promotes tearing in Tyvek, so do your reading. There have been several successes and a few failures and all have been documented well.

Good Luck! And we love to see pics!

Hey guys, thanks for the responses!
Im actually In Australia so there's no discount sil for me =(
I have a local source of 1443r (the soft variety).
And for the record I like the nerdy appeal of the tyvek symbol.

I've not actually done it, but I do believe it holds tyvek tape VERY well. I know the tyvek envelopes I've used will not open without tearing the tyvek, indicating the tape is stronger than the material. If you can tape it, I wouldn't even try to sew it and introduce spots for leaking.
