Nice!!
I'm glad this is coming together, was so close to shelving it for the moment. Just needed to step away and think a bit, and lo-tech it a little. Got too caught up in hardware and needed to go simple and use more of the hammocks own features.
I'll deal with the bar. Like the idea better than having 2x4's under my butt (2x4 PHStand) - not knocking the PHS at all, that's a great stand, I have two. But in case of "catastrophic failure" I'll hit hard ground instead of harder 2x4's. I can't have a broken ***. I need it to sit on all day at work.
Mystery solved!!!!
So when I bought my original hinges, I purchased a blister package of two "lightweight 4-inch T hinges" from Ace. When I went back today, I grabbed two single 4" T Hinges that were noticeably heavier. I got back and dismantled my stands - and boy were those originals ever lightweight - and way smaller! And I thought I was going crazy and bought 3" hinges before when I set these next to each other:
Then I remembered I still had the packaging from the originals, and checked:
Obviously it is the tongue length that is measured. ;^)
Super-solid now with the new hinges!! Put in these hooks which I will fasten the 'biners to (had saved these from an ENO I on which changed the suspension).
Avoid the "lightweight" 4-inchers - thicker and wider mo' betta!!
Oops, sorry. Inadvertently posted twice.

ewhammock, the top hinge in the first pic looks just like the ones I'm using. The second one is closer to the looks of the ones I got from Lowes, or HD. The wind picked up and dumped my stand, twisted the small hinge a little. That's when I replaced them. The bigger ones are holding fine.......RR

Just to compare notes, here's the Stanley 4" hinge I used..
I had to join the club and build my own stand.

We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.
I can't be the first to think of this so just let this serve as a bump or pictorial record of someone else's idea....
Attached small eye-screws near top of tripod, then bound tripod top with plastic zip-ties (see pic 1). Eye-screws do two things: 1) keep zip-ties in place 2) provide place to hang stuff. Tried paracord under and through eyes, but couldn't get it tight enough. To show it's stability, pic 2 is the tripod "leaning/standing" on one leg (I couldn't do this with paracord..).
Also, attached two zip-ties on bottom of legs to hold them in place with stakes (pic 3).
I'm going camping with friends who have small children, and knowing what children can do, get into, bump into (from experience!) while camping. Plus wanted a way to stake down the stand if we anticipate high winds and want to leave the camp for a while.

Very good Privateer.
Don't get complacent though! I'm sure not looking forward to a report when someone gets hurt by one of these stands... Especially kids...

Thanks!
Thought about this after the first set-up when hammock was too low, wife lost balance and tripods walked. Of course that was due to improper hammock hang..
