Welcome to the forums, Jim.
We're going to need a little better description, or pics. There's a saying here on HF, "Pics or it didn't happen." We all subscribe to the belief that a pic is worth a thousand posts.
To help you out, I'm going to ask a few of questions.
Did someone make them for you, or have you completed the process of making them yourself? Your statement can be read either way.
Most folks are using chain link fence top rail, 1 3/8" diameter, or 1" metal electrical conduit. The conduit is one 10' piece. The top rail comes 10' 6". Some folks cut it in half, swap ends, and rejoin it at the swaged end.
Both of these options are for the ridgepole, not the legs. A few folks have used military aluminum mast sections for legs and ridgepole.
Are you referring to the legs, or the ridgepole? What material did you use? Did you make sure the hammock suspension was over the ridgepole at the correct spot?
I know that's a lot of questions, but with he answers we can understand what's going on, and get you on the right track.

You can't make good decisions (or give good advice) without good information.

You're probably going to want to put a limiter line on those legs to keep them from spreading if you were on soft or slippery ground.
Nice job!
