Okay tl stand question or epiphany....
What if a couple was to hang off of a single
tree. Their heads would be close for talking.
Could both feet ends be held by a complete TL stand?

I am suggesting two tripos with crossbrace, but the
Weight would be pulling diagonally on the stand.
If both feet ends are suspended the same as you would
hang a single hammock, would it work?

It would only work if you had a ridgebar from 1 tripod to the tree for each hanger. The crossbar with the hammock hanging from it is what allows the tripod to support the vertical load instead of the normal horizontal load.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

I understand your point of view.... but then again,
I would think that if you suspend the hammocks directly
below the point of the tripod, that you might get enough
    stability to do this.

Of course, I think this would DEFINITELY work with two tie
outs on each tripod opposite of the way that the hammock
    would be pulling

When the TL stand is in normal configuration, does the middle
pole stop the stands from collapsing in each other? Or does that
    pole just help with rigidity?

From all of the pictures that I have seen, it seems as if the
crossbar helps with just the vertical load, and the tripod itself
deals with the horizontal load on it, as its lashings and the way
that a tripod stands distributes the horizontal load.

Are you all thinking that both tripods would tip towards the tree
that the two hammocks are hung on?

I'm afraid you have it perfectly bass-ackwards.

The tripods only take the vertical load and the ridge pole's true job is keeping the two tripods from being pulled toward each other.

Is that about it? Yes, I believe it is.

Now, I have done what you propose with one tripod and a tree, tying out the tripod on the opposite side of the tree and it takes a really substantial anchor, but it can be done. And I'm not talking about tent stakes, I mean an anchor.

hppyfngy has it right. The only thing the ridgepole does is to take the horizontal load and keep the tripods from collapsing inward.

As a matter of fact, with the stands set up with a narrow spread of the legs, some caution is due when setting down into the hammock not to press backwards too much and tip them over. It has been done by more than one hanger.

I know I am stupid so please do not remind me.....I do not have this setup yet but was wondering could you not just turn both tripods 180* and not use the cross bar

Either you use the horizontal pole to deal with the compression OR you anchor the tripod to balance the horizontal pull. A screw-in dog stake will work unless you're in loose sand. Then you may need 2 screw-in dog stakes.
