The TurtleLady stand in my living room has a similarly narrow stance. The tripods are made of maple saplings and I screwed smaller sticks to the legs to keep them from "walking" inward.

I took advantage of the sticks and made a "kitty hammock" on one of the tripods by stretching a piece of fabric around the sticks:

The sticks also stiffen the legs of the tripods. Of course, this makes the stand decidedly NOT portable, but--for me--that's okay. It serves its purpose in my living room nightly. Good luck!

Right now, the ridge pole is 12'-3" from eye bolt to eye bolt.

One thing I don't like is the loose fit of the fence tubing. In the last photo you can see the sag at the joint. I assume everyone else has the same issue?
I used a single 1/2" wrap of gorilla tape on the very end of the tapered end of the fence pole and that sag is gone - tape should over lap the tapered end a little to ease ware and tare during assembly - add a touch of Vaseline if you want. I had to replace the tape after a couple months due to ware, but it works. File down rough edges on the pipe - note alignment marks too.
The bigger black ring - I put a little piece of bicycle inner tube at the seam that I can fold over the seam when using a tarp to reduce tarp rubbing.

You have a hammock in your living room? My family would kill me; especially during the holidays. I'm totally envious

The legs on my tripods are 6' tall and the spread is 4'. Add more spread for longer legs.

This sounds like an idea well worth trying.

I slept the other night outside in the stand... It was about 50* at sundown and a wind of about 20-30 mph... Found a way to tie the setup down using continuous loops and some large tent stakes... It worked well even with the hammock fully catching wind and no tarp...

Finally did a "field test" of my TDS.

I think this is something of a "first," the TDS in the Everglades:

No, it really wasn't needed. The island (aka: hammock) had plenty of trees to hang from, which I did, my first night there. But I'd brought it along since I really wasn't sure what I'd find when I got there. And I did NOT relish the thought of sleeping on the ground. So the second night, I got the stand out of the boat and put it to use.

No problems at all. Slept both nights very comfortably. And there is a full trip report in the appropriate section of this Forum.

    Hi Mike,

We're now back home from our vacation in Florida and I was so tempted to go to hammock!!!!!

We were racking up the road miles travelling around and I did hint to the family that we were close to "hammock" but they didn't take the hint........

I did find myself looking at ENO hammocks in Dicks Sporting Goods in Tampa though!!!!!
I was tempted with a super fly, but it was a bit over my vacation budget........

A few days before, I was dragged out of Bass Pro after 2 hours with an expression like "a kid in a sweet shop" on my face.......

You Americans are spoilt for choice!!!!!
