Samsara, is this going to be your third? Could you edit your initial thread to show that the TurtleDog debut was on post #320 of the Turtlelady stand thread? Might be of help to others, Thanks.
Fish, congradulations and glad you're enjoying the stand. How about some pics?
You're welcome old4hats. When you mentioned the numbers on the other thread I thought " this won't take long". Right. Finished up going back thru the threads around 2:00 this morning. I tend to be a nightowl but that was well past my hammock time but was interesting going back thru the threads.

Yes, this will be my third. I'm going to build a big, sturdy one similar to the one that I built for my daughter (this will be for my huge mayan) and do a trial of the folding leg method on one of my original stands.
I can't edit my original post since I think you only get a few days after you write a post and then you can't edit it any more. I'll send a message to one of the mods and ask them to do it for me. I never anticipated this thread being big and long... I would have put more thought into my first post if I knew it would be this long

#33 built last weekend
Engineer in me has to say...I understand the upward deflection referenced, it's caused by inducing a moment with the horizontal distance between the hanging line and the hammock hanging line. Will have to build a set of these, but will instead put a shackle in the top rail cap, with screw vertically oriented, and the hanging line and the hammock line (where the suspension connects to) both off the same shackle. That, in theory, should eliminate the moment component as the vertical force is transferred through the shackle which can move in relation to the top rail so no vertical force (beyond friction) can transfer. This should put the top rail in pure compression. Only issue would be the shackle "flipping" to the side and being somewhat off center, inducing a lateral moment, but I don't think that would be substantial and could be countered by moving the stands a bit out.
It sounds good at least
#35 - Transmission died on way back from Scout trip today. Stand is in the back of it. When I get it back, I will take pictures and post.
