    Thanks!

Thanks its working GREAT for trail #1! I screwed up and on one stand I forgot the change the drill bit to 1/4" so the holes are a bit big; thus causing the legs to MAYBE shift some on the one tripod. No big deal though! I'm sure I will have a 'Turtledog-2' coming along soon! Thanks!

I finally ordered some Aluminum Flag/Antenna poles as shown by Gmcttr in post #203 here. Ordered brand new from Ebay, a set of 12 with a carry bag and an extra set of 6 and with combined shipping it was around $110. Today was my initial setup. I tried an 11' hammock first, using the full length of three 4' sections as my top rail but I was sitting too low. I will need to raise the top rail and try again. Then I tried my ENO double (with original hardware intact, no ridgeline yet), with a shortened top rail. I have lots more experimenting to do and plenty more hammocks to try. I included pics of my TDS with hinges that I put together last month also. Shown with a Tableclothsfactory hammock with mini-spreader bars. It has been thoroughly tested by myself and Katinthehat when she visited last week. Awesome threads BTW!

That's a really sleek looking stand, Sandpiper!
Hopefully I'll make it to another Texas hang and see more of your creative handiwork!

Agreed that the Sandpiper set up looks good!

Mike -- hope you can make it this way again sometime down the road.

With a large group hang planned a few months out, I am revisiting my TDS fiddling as well. Hopefully I will have a couple work out as tree-less alternatives.

I am still wary of sleeping with a fence rail directly over my face, in spite of all the success stories on here. Since I'm too cheap to go the aluminum pole route, I guess I just need to get over it.

    My Stand design in use

    Hello,

I made a couple of portable stands using the top angle cuts, hinges and used old trampoline poles I had around for the center pole. I just used a couple of "S" hooks to hold the slings.

gmcpcs, your links are to your thumbnails, rather than the full size images, so they display about an inch across. Can you update the links to the full size images?

Liking that angle cut cut more and more. Coming out in pairs now, that's great,
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.

Been contemplating the purchase since I saw your post. I was looking for something that breaks down enough I can carry and use in a hotel room among other uses.

I was a bit leery too, but I got over it. Since I don't toss and turn when I sleep, it is stable enough.
