Thanks, I like it too OD. The way the suspension is attached right at the eyebolt, it's practically hanging from the S hooks.

It doesn't flex at all. I only weigh 180#, but I don't know how it could flex much, no matter who's in it.

I had a fail today after attempting this build. Sorry, no pics.

Went to HD. They didn't have any fence parts for the top rail. Got three 4 foot sections of 1/2 inch galvanized pipe plus connectors instead. These were quite substantial feeling sections of pipe. After building the stands and being excited to try the hammock, my Scout colleague that had been working with me on the project leisurely lowered himself into the hammock and... WHAM! One of the couplings connecting the top rail sections gives way-he goes to ground, the pipe comes down on him, and the wooden stands start to collapse and fall on him! Fortunately, he just bit his tongue (the deceleration got him). I was able to grab one tripod and part of the pipe before it hit him. Not good.

Mission tomorrow: find a replacement ridge pole.

Oooh Bruce, glad your friend didn't get really hurt.

There is potential for injury in these things. That's for sure.

Everyone needs to take extra care especially when loading and unloading these contraptions. There's a lot there that could hurt you.

So, it sounds like I should borrow my son's ice hockey gear before trying one of these!

Glad no one was seriously hurt!

Glad no one was hurt any worse. Now we know something else that isn't a good idea.
hppyfngy has a nice twist on the 1'' emt. I have a spare 10' section of that and may try his method myself.

Hey njredneck: do you have any pics of that coupling section?

    Thanks!

Hey hppyfngy: love the S hook! Do you happen to know what size S hook you used? Did you have to drill out the hole in the hinge to get the hook to fit properly?

    Thanks!

Glad that there were no serious injuries. Was the coupling a standard EMT coupling?
