That's why I built my second set. Still not quite exactly where I want but I think they're definitely more stable.

Of course, I haven't tied anything in place to keep the legs from splaying... Yet. . .

Your sewing is most excellent, and I'm sure your carpentry will be great too.

Mule tape will work on that leg splaying too

I have my wood and poles, but haven't gone any further, as I didn't have the amsteel to finish things up. I don't know why I didn't think about the mule tape? How do you do mule tape prussiks though...and where are the prussiks needed? I'm a bit confused about that.....unless it's just the actual loop and not a working prusik, like a half hitch, then I get it....maybe

If your stand is unstable make sure that the lines holding the top rail are centered under the tripod legs. I have the narrow footprint version and have slept about 19 nights in it now and I move around quite a lot getting settled and it has stayed stable after the first night once I got the hanging lines centered.

I used a quick link to connect to an open hole on the hinge. The mule tape loops are just that: Fisherman's knot loops. I did them big enough to double loop on the top rail (thus the prussik) so they won't slide.

I actually made 4 of them: 2 are larksheaded to the hammock end and then looped over the top rail. Pics tomorrow... I'm off to Trick-or-Treat!

Already onto my mk2 in 1 week!

After finding this thread which gave me the perfect solution for my lack of trees in my backyard I went out and bought all the wood and bits I needed to whip up my 'mk1' tripods.

I then had an issue finding the tubing to run between the tripods... I couldn't find anything like what I have seen in the photos here.

After some online research I found a guy who specialised in aluminium tubing, so i went to his workshop and this is where the concept for the 'mk2' tripods was born!

I have ended up building telescopic aluminium tripods that stand approx. 2 metres tall (1.2 metres when compact) and an aluminium centre beam (scaffolding) that is strong enough to hang body weight from the centre. The reasoning behind going this thick was to avoid the beam from bowing and so if someone pulled themselves out of the hammock using the beam it wouldn't collapse above them.

I have slept in my WBBB hanging from the mk2 and it is perfect and strong. I have also made the centre beam almost 4 metres long so I can hang my WB Mamajamba tarp from it too.
