I'm looking at joining the TurtleDog ranks and build my first stand. I have an 11 foot hammock with a 10 ft. ridgeline. I know that most of you use the 10'6" chainlink fence top rails, cut in half and insert the tapered end into non-tapered end at the center. I'm assuming that this will make the metal top rail around 10' final length with 6" of the tapered end embedded. Question is; will this work with an 11 foot hammock? Where will the suspention hang? Will I need to put another extension in the middle? Any help is appreciated.

To answer your question, start here:

Plug in the specs of your hammock and desired ridgeline length you'll get closer to figuring out where the suspension will hang. I suspect, because you want to go with a 10' ridgeline, that you'll need to connect your suspension to the ends of the ridgepole with a special fitting like others have done, and a pretty short suspension at that. If it doesn't work, you may need an extension sleeve or another section of pole for the extra length.

Will the turtle dog work with a Clark NX-250? Not sure about the top rail length.
It took me a while, but I finally got around to making mine

So I finally got around to making my TDS. I used the hppyfnguy's set up on the top (cut the angles). Tried it out a few times but the spacing of the triangle ended up around 3 feet. It ended up being too tippy (fell 3 times) and it collapsed on me twice.
I decided to cut the angled tops off. Poles were cut to 78 inches and I went up 2 feet from the bottom and drilled holes for some rope. My triangle ended up being around 4 feet. Man it became super stable for me now. I think the ridge pole became about 13 feet long. I like this a lot better.
