I finally finished mine and it held my 275 lbs but the wife does not trust it. Did find out about what happens when you mix a hammock with no one in it and wind gusts...a stand that keeps falling over. Will have to look at adding tie down lines to it or not deploy the stand unless someone is going to be in the hammock.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

Said it at least once before. Unloaded TD Stand plus wind equals really scary kite!

I was worried about mine going airborne so I just screwed some eye's in the bottom of the posts, this gives me a point to peg it down........
If you put the hammock in a snakeskin or similar it makes it less of a hang-glider as well!!!!!

Finished a pair of stands last week that I was going to bring camping with this weekend, but we ended up hanging from the trees instead. There were 20mph winds all night and I'm not sure they would have stayed standing.

I think the gentleman responsible for the creativity behind this stand already posted on this thread (don't blame me for not reading the whole thing!), but I wanted to post my reincarnation in case anyone was looking for a stand that you could travel with. My longest pieces are 4 foot long and the total weight is roughly 20 pounds. I posted about it in another thread here.

    Here is the set-up:IMG_20141017_073451.jpgIMG_20141016_201940.jpg

Could you post a close-up of how you're attaching the ridge pole to the tripod? Also, how long is your ridge pole? Thanks.

    Sure, here you go:

    IMG_20141017_073353.jpg

As you can see, the pole just lays on top of the tripod. I've been in and out of my hammock roughly twenty times and it feels very sturdy. There is a video on 'how-to' make this stand here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-Ea73tsxlk

The pole is 10 feet long. http://www.homedepot.com/p/YARDGARD-...3DPT/100322532. I cut it into three pieces.

I describe it in a little more detail here: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...=1#post1343720

On reflection, is there any reason why my tripods need to be inside of the points where my continuous loops attach to the ridge pole?

Shoulders shrug. Looks like you have enough pole to experiment with putting the tripods outside. Let us know how it goes. I'm intrigued by this pole on top design I've seen folks using.
