Sounds like you are definitely part of Team Turtle

Just make sure that you (both) check your rope on a very regular basis since rope+movement+weight/stress+holes/edges can eat through rope quick. If you inspect the ropes every time you use it then you should be able to mitigate most of the risk.

Thanks for the heads-up. I knew the rope would be a temporary solution when I got home, looked at the label on the bag of rope, and saw that the stuff was rated very low for UV resistance . I have a few ideas for how to improve it, so we'll see how it goes.

So, I have been toying with the idea of making the ridge pole longer. The 10' conduit seemed a little short and did not play well with my tarp. I picked up some 1" conduit and will be cutting it to about three feet. This will allow it to sleeve over each end and then get pinned to prevent slippage. This should allow at least a 14' ridge pole that is rock solid.

    Got my stand done

Okay, I've been "hangin' around" the forums for a bit but haven't posted 'til now. I Just finished my TD Stand yesterday and I'll give it a real test tomorrow night.

If all goes well, I'll take it to the Fall Camporee in a couple of weeks. I'll try to post pictures of that.

Here's the "logo" I put on the stand. (Found it with a Google Image search.)

Like the logo! Probably be a few copies of that made.

Well... I went to Home Depot today and spent $56... total cost of my new TurtleDog Hammock stand.
I went with the Cedar 2X2's, they were straight.
Shot some video of the build.. will post here soon. A great addition to my set up.

    LOL!

    Dear chigger,

There is a Turtlelady, sometimes called Turtle Lady. Then there is the very kind gentleman named Old Dog. There is the TLS, or Turtle Lady Stand, and the TDS, or Turtle Dog Stand. But as far as I know, there is no Turtle Dog Lady. Or did I miss something along the way? Both threads have gotten pretty daunting! I love it all!

    Joyfully, Turtlelady

Yep, there goes that glitch between my brain and fingers again. Thank you, Turtlelady, for your priceless contribution to this life of hammock camping. We sometimes call it madness but it is really the complete opposite.

    Joy indeed, Chigger
