I may be wrong, but it doesn't look like it's coated at all. Might be a wet surprise in a storm!

The descriptions on walmartls website isn't always accurate or complete. I would assume it is PU coated.

FYI: Walmart's return policy is only good for 30days. Buy one put it through it's paces and go get a new one every month. They will do that 3 times before refunding your money or giving you store credit.
I went through this process trying to find a good set of handsfree earbuds for my phone. Turned out the cheaper Maxell brand has held up the best.

It says it's a sun shade, nothing about keeping you dry.

My son's scout troop just got three of these--one two pole (like shown) and two four pole. The two pole is a little tight for a camp kitchen, but I was eyeing it for hammock use. It shed rain, as long as we didn't allow water to pool, then a slow drip. We had several inches of rain over 24 hrs, and it worked fine.

That's interesting. I wonder what the fabric is then?

I have one and they are heavy, even without the poles and replacing the guy lines. Pitched right it kept the water off us and had just enough to cover the picnic table. I thought it would work for a hammock, but as I said it is heavy. It is in the gear shed for a dining shelter when car camping only.

Do you know how much it weighs with the tarp alone?
I would not mind packing a 3 lb tarp at all. And they make a sprayable water proofer that I used on the canvas tarp I made for my Geo Tracker that worked like a charm
