Whoopies love 'em. Less bulk & weight. Used straps & buckles & actually the buckle was always more work for me.

Just to add my $.02, from my limited use of both systems, cinch buckles seems to be the way to go. Despite all this weight difference talk, I think you'd be hard pressed to distinguish the two systems in a backpack, and, as noted elsewhere above, the straps/buckles provide the greatest versatility for set up, especially with close trees. I do like the point about sap, but that wouldn't affect me as I store the systems separately as it is. Someone mentioned stretch with webbing, but my Arrowhead cinch buckle set is absolutely solid and has no give whatsoever. Now, the whoopies definitely have that nerd-cool Chinese finger trap factor, but I'd go buckles if I had to choose only one. Luckily, I don't and so I get to have my cake and eat it too!
I have whoopie on a few of my hammocks, but have gone back to the stock suspension on my Blackbird, but use a Dutch clip instead of a biner. It's just so easy to use and I never have to worry about forgetting the tree straps. As far as weight difference, I don't notice it. It's all user preference really...
Not whoopie slings, really, but bearchaser's single line suspension (http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=32421), maybe the same as the "whoopie loops" WV refers to. The thing I don't like about the webbing is having to eyeball the angle of hang and shift things up and down the tree till it's correct. I'm also not a fan of hanging the tarp and the hammock. With BC's mod you hang the tarp and then hang the hammock from loops in the tarp suspension. Same angle of hang every time. The whoopie loops make things very quick. I'm also mostly a northwoods canoeist, so my choice of trees is typically not limited.
I recently went back to strap and buckle because I got tired of keeping up with multiple pieces to the suspension. I also like the fact I can use trees closer together if I have to.
Both. Rings on the Hennessy and whoopee's on whatever open top I am playing with. I tend to have 1 or 2 gathered end projects around so I just larkshead on the whoopee's with the fixed loop.
Use the whoopie loops with Harbor Freight 12' cinch straps. Cut off the cinch buckle and use elephant trunks to hook into the whoopie loop. I love it. So easy, and store my straps seperate from the hammock.
"No whining in the woods"
I'm giving the same answer I use when asked "whisky or beer?" Why limit yourself to just 1?
I have one hammock set up with whoopies (my personal), and my guest hammock with straps/rings. Best of both worlds!
