So can you tell me more about your buckle & strap setup... what buckles are you using & how do they attach to the hammock rope?

if your whoppie is attached to a fixed loop on your hammock you can bypass it and attach the fixed loop directly to your marlin spike/dutch buckle/ whatever. This is what I have done in the past when i find the distance a bit tight for the whoopies. SO i bring have em on the setup but they dont always get used.

Yep good point. I take a small ziplock bag for my tree straps when they get sap on em'. Don't want that crap on my hammock. One thing I did before I used whoopies was bring some cut pieces of trash bag and wrap that around the tree under the webbing so the webbing wouldn't touch the sap. It worked pretty well.

I started with straps and rings, went to whoopies, then back to straps and rings for speed and convenience. I think if I had some Dutchware goodies, I might stick with the whopies.

If I were doing long multi days and was truly concernd about pack weight, I would definitely go back to whoopies and buy a few titanium thingys.

I hate to admit, but the majority of my hammock trips now are camping at a sailing club for a race (regatta, in the lingo) next to my truck and cooler, so fast setup and take down are more important than weight.

As a matter of fact, I am going again this weekend to sleep in my new TENT with my 2 boys. I am comfortable admitting I cried when ole yellar died, wearing pink, (I call it peach) and occasionally sleeping in a tent.

i dont like tree sap either.pine tree's are a no no .i really check ceder trees out also for sapneo

All we have in many areas is spruce and pine...whoopie slings it is for me! I really liked the ease of setup and simplicity of the strap and buckle setup that came on my Blackbird, just too messy in my neck of the woods!

I generally like whoopie slings and have used them exclusively for a couple of years - until now. Nope. Not straps. My latest hammock has whoopie loops. They allow a shorter hammock to tree strap distance. They also use dynaglide in a way that would ideally double its strength. (I've been trying to get some of Grizz's frictionless pulleys, but I think they're on permanent back-order. )

Exactly what I do. I almost always use the whoopie slings, but the by-pass loops are there if I need them.
