Hi, I'm a total newbie to hammock camping. I discovered the Clark Jungle Hammock website several years ago. That got me intrigued.
When my son was in Boy Scouts, I used to go camping with them and slept above the ground in a simple canvass cot. Either it was too narrow or I was too wide. Either way, it was less than perfect. So the hammock, as an alternative to sleeping next to ground, resonated with me.
I never pulled the trigger and bought a Clark. While doing some online research for a fall canoe trip in the Adirondacks, I became acquainted with this site and the hammock camping sub-culture. I like.
To make a long story short, I bought a Claytor Jungle Hammock, ALPS Lightweight inflatable pad and Whoopieslings.com All In One Suspension system. I have a U.S. G.I Sleeping Bag System.
I've hung the hammock twice so far. The first time for just a couple of hours. And again, last night, I took it out into some local woods and spent the night in it and my Patrol Bag. Temps in the low 40sF, and pouring rain from about 3AM to 7AM.
Shall I continue here, or in the trip reports section of the forum?
