DIY is a pretty good option for someone on a budget, especially if they have some guidance from someone with experience to get the right stuff. But don't get fancy or you'll spend more than you think.

You can even keep it simple with no sewing by ordering a tablecloth from tableclothsfactory.com and just gather up the ends.

It weighs 23oz, is made from polyurethane-coated 70d polyester, coyote-brown, and 144" on the ridgeline by 120" wide; it's a big tarp hehe. A little heavy for some people's taste, but hey. It was cheap!

It's actually boxed and in my car already lol, I have it listed for sale over on BPL.com, so I can ship it out pretty quick.
That with a skeeter beeter hammock is only just a hair over 2.5 lbs..
    Thats not bad at all..
I may have a buddy that has that hammock not being used..
Ill make a call. Worth asking.

    Thumbs up

Thank you all for your feedback. Kris and Gary have been good enough to donate some unused items (hammock and tarp) to my scout. He will be very pleased and surprised.

I was only seeking advice but I wound up with much more. I have been on the forum for less than two years, but you all truly are the best!

Have you actually done this? The 90x132 looks promising.

Yes, did it with both the 60 and the 90 (personally found no benefit to the 90). Worked great. There may be other, cheaper ways to buy this material, but this was convenient and already came with hems, so no sewing. Just had to use really thin rope for the gathers.

How big are you? I'm 5'11, 240lbs, and I wonder if it would be sturdy enough. I'd mainly want the 90 x 132 because of the length. I might try the 72x126.

I'm 6' about 280. It is plenty strong. It is not lightweight, though. I am sure it is the same polyester crinkle cut fabric as the Dream Hammocks use, which they rate for up to 400 lbs, but Randy says he's had over 500 lbs with no problem.

OK. So if you are using a tablecloth as a hammock, does that mean that someone can come up to you and snatch the tablecloth out from under you without making you fall over?

I'm primarily a scout camper, and we rarely do anything but car camp. Thanks for the info. My oldest son wants to hammock, and I want him to have a better looking rig than I do. Hems would be nice :-)

Hehe. Well, it's more of an afternoon play hammock for me and the kids. If I'm camping, I prefer one with a built in bug net.

I have a Dangerbird coming most likely next week for my own son who is a scout. I hope to pick up another for myself down the road. Randy is a craftsman and I'm happy to pay him for his art. Besides, I'm pretty lousy on the thread injector.
