I'm fiddling with an idea and need some insight. Most pics show the channel curving downward toward the hammock (gravity and all) but some had a ridgeline connected so that it actually pulled the channel up-ish. Also, the thread is moving away from no arc at all
(Tube through channel).
So my question is does the downward arc help or hurt the MSB concept. Would an upward (away from the hammock) arc be an improvement.
Directionally challenged...comicly so.
Not all who wonder are lost...But I'm probably just lost.
That is a HMS screwgate (small pointy end, large curved end) It is a locking type. Rated for around 25KN too, plenty for a hammock.
Just an idea, if a carabiner would work for giving the spread needed, someone should try it with a pair of DMM Oval gates?
Would any of the following be suitable? Larger than normal carabiner's, fully rated, all available in screwlock / twist lock type:
Clog Super
DMM Boa
Mammut Bionic Hms

I just tried the biners on an ENO DN. LOTS of fabric to thread on a biner. NO knee ridge. My sense is that this mod has greater effect on smaller, narrower hammocks. Tim put his on a BIAS WW, with similar results.

I tried something on my Claytor no net today-------I kept the suspension thru the end channel, but also ran an old piece of tent pole thru the channel. I suspected this would open the end up more and provide a better lay--------The end result was not good---it tore out some of the end channel stitches. For some reason, when you put a rigid tube thru the channel, it puts alot of extra stress on the end channel stitches when you load up the hammock. (I guess the end channel needs to bend, which kind of makes sense due to most of your weight being in the middle of the hammock) So, lesson learned---no one got hurt, just a few stitches that need to be replaced! So........dont to that! Hopefully this will keep some one else from making the same mistake!
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )
Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

That is very nice what you did with the spreader bar berksound.
Steve bo that makes that it would create a result like that. What I personally would do is something like what berksound did.
