    Transamerica Trail section

Well, tomorrow morning, I'm leaving for my Transamerica Trail section trip.
I'll be riding over to meet a friend and staying the night in Alabama.

Saturday morning, we'll be headed out to get on the TAT at the TN/MS state line. And we'll stay on the TAT until Newkirk, Oklahoma. At that point, I'll be getting back on the asphalt for a ride to St. Louis, MO. And my buddy will continue on to CO.

I'm taking my Clark NX-200, OES tarp, and a sleeping pad. No sleeping bag, because the overnight temps are 70+ all along my route.

I'll also be taking a piece of Tyvek for a ground cloth, just in case we stop somewhere without good trees.
My riding companion will be using a bivy for his weather protection, planning to sleep on the ground when it's clear.
I think I'll be more comfy in my hammock.

When I get back, I'll post some pics!

    Wish me luck.

Sounds like a great ride. Enjoy!

We'll expect a full trip report.

Very Cool! Have a great trip.

Is there any reason you could not take a mountain bike on this trail?

Not at all. In fact, the TAT is listed on several cycling websites.
When there's standing water in some of the low spots . . . I imagine you'd want to walk a bicycle around, but . . .

Not to sound negative but you might want to bring at least a summer bag. Learned the lesson the hard way it is hard to predict the weather over a prolonged amount of time, or sometimes for an overnight.

I agree with Coffee. A poncho liner, super light weight bag or something in case Mother Nature throws you a curve ball. Have fun and be safe.

I think I'm gonna be counting on my Clark's "weathershield" for any freak changes in temps.
It does seem to increase the temp inside the hammock by 6-10 degrees.

I may regret it, but . . . carrying my 15 degree down bag around for 70+ temps seems silly.

No worries. Bring change and adapt and you'll be fine. If anything else it will be a good story.
